SYTYCD 9.6-Atlanta Day 2-Flippin' and Floppin'

It's Day 2 and the first person we're introduced to, after the judges (Nigel, Mary, and Debbie), are Courtney and her grandmother, Everdeen.

Everdeen is a spitfire.  She goes straight in for the kiss with Nigel. What we learn from this is always bring your grandmother, or someone else's grandmother, or the nearest old person to the theater you can find and pretend that they're your grandmother.  They always get the most airtime.  Grandma says the same thing that Steven Tyler says after every performance on American Idol "beautiful". Mary is the deciding vote and she screams "Vegas" at Grandma Everdeen.

How in the world Asher Walker from Franklin, VA managed to get interested in dancing, hip hop, in particular, is beyond me.  He's like a living breathing Ren McCormack

And just for fun, while we're at it, I'm putting this one up too.  If you can resist the urge to dance while listening to it, you're a stronger person than I am:

It's an inspired music choice of James Brown and he's actually pretty good.  He goes straight through to Vegas.  He's no Kent yet, but I like having a country boy on board.

George Lawrence II is a homegrown former athlete.  His routine is crazy strong.  Nigel, of course, asks about his father's support, and of course, he's straight through.

There's a quick glimpse of Abigail Ruz, Calvin Turner Jr, and Aubrey Klinger

After the break, we're introduced to Brittany from Chicken Town (Mary later steals this term from me).  This town is the answer to that age old question "Why'd the chicken cross the road?"  Since we've already gotten our mandatory country boy, it was only a matter of time before we got the mandatory country girl.  It's a shame her delivery of her thoughts doesn't match the maturity of her dancing, but she's through to choreography.

Damon and Deon are back and on the prowl for numbers as well as redemption for their stolen choreography snaffu from last year.

After a drawn out glimpse of choreography, we know Damon and Brittany are going through to Vegas along with a bunch of people who may or may not throw fits for the entirety of Vegas week.
