Quantum: Not a sol-ACE in the hole

Let me start off with apologizing for the pun-riffic title, I always try to be clever but seriously, what else in the world can you say when a film is titled "Quantum of Solace"? James Bond, you leave me NO PLACE to go!!
Anyway this is indeed a short, sweet, hopefully to the point review of the latest in the Bond series, seeing as I saw it almost 2 weeks ago and can only vaguely remember the second action sequence in the film where Bond is somehow able to shoot a man upside down hanging from a rope.
In the shortest of terms, I didn't hate this movie. I didn't love it either. It's somewhere in the middle, but what i do know is that with a plot line this thin, I think it's a good thing to have substantial actor like Daniel Craig at the helm of things. I love Craig's Bond. I love the brashness and the no-fear action. I like the superior-but-not-too-smug responses, and I love the fact that they actually have to write a script for Craig, not continue on with …

NKOTB anyone?!

Yesterday was a strange sort of crossroads for me. I spent the day moving into an apartment in which I will be on my own, paying rent, worrying about heating bills and "did you lock the door, did you turn off the lights?" and all the other ridiculous questions that my mother used to ask that I rolled my eyes at. And later that night, I went to the New Kids on the Block concert. Yes, New Kids on the Block.
I'll hold up just short of calling in the best night of my life, I mean the last 25 years have included proms and graduations and moving into and out of college and all of those other normal things. And still Guster and Barenaked Ladies' concerts are my favorite pop culture events. But I swear something strange happened as I heard the opening lines of "You've Got The Right Stuff". bum bum ba da dum, bum bum ba dum... bum bum ba da dum the right stuff....First time was a great time second time was a blast... and there I was 7 years old, sitting on the …

Mr. Obama Goes to Washington

I couldn't stay away from talking about this election for too long. I don't think anyone could. November 4, 2008 became the night that history books and blogs galore will be talking about for at least the next four years, if not the next 104. And what I really discovered is what a sucker I am for a good speech and a happy ending/ new beginning.

As I was watching the continuous news cycle cover this story that's been a year and a half in the making, I was struck again about the curious notion of art imitating life or vice versa. I just couldn't seem to shake the notion that this was a movie that I had seen over and over again. It was clips from To Kill A Mockingbird ("In the name of God, do your duty") it was Jimmy Stewart as the naive congressman staging a filibuster to stand against corruption and stand up for the people. It was all of those "underdogs survive to fight another day" stories that American cinema is so adept at making and sel…

In case you're wondering

So there are tons and tons of media sources out there, telling you what you should and should not be listening to, watching, voting for, etc. I thought I'd add my two cents to those items, except for the politics part, we'll all have plenty of that tomorrow. See if there's anything you agree with, anything that intrigues you, let me know what's going on with whoever's reading this, please, I love comments, seriously!

Obsession of the Moment:
David Cook's new single, "Declaration" which you can listen to/watch right here:
It's no secret that I'm a fan of Mr. Cook's but if this catchy little ditty is any indication of his album, maybe I should pre-order it on Itunes (which you too can also do)

Movies to Possibly Check Out:
Most recent rentals/viewings have included the following films:
-Rosencrantz and Gildenstern are Dead: If you're a fan of Tim Roth or Gary Oldman, or Shakespeare, you'll …

New Potteriffic trailer

I know that there are plenty of people out there, like me, who are utterly and completely bummed that the studios are playing games this year and pushing back release dates. I mean even J-14, if you read it that is (and I definitely do NOT read it...don't ask me how I know this) had the incorrect release date for the sixth Harry Potter Movie, H.P and the Half-Blood Prince. Well for those of you in need of a Harry Potter fix, the new trailer was recently released and if you haven't seen it, here it is:

Please Enjoy!
